Article: Monitors and Projectors: How do they work?

We created this as a "Science of the Every Day" project, where each person would take an everyday object, in this case a projector, and explain how it works scientifically.

This is mainly a derivative work of the article, turning it into a simple-to-understand poster or "graphical abstract".

We found a scientific paper we were interested in and had to reword the abstract using only the most common 1,000 words in English.

This concept be familiar if you have read Thing Explainer by Randall Munroe, who also created the hit webcomic xkcd.

Abstract:

We are the people who work on large roads for the country. It is important that we can know when bad things happen in the future and stop the bad things, but if the roads break then we need to fix it quickly.

Our idea of what that means is that the roads should be fine when there is a lot of rain, or when outside is bad in a different way. It also means that when we do work on roads, we should make the roads better so it is fine when it is bad outside in the future.

Outside is becoming worse because of humans, which makes our work to make the roads good harder. Today we will talk about ways to make the roads work for longer, as well as what we know, how we work, and we will need in the future. We know this from a couple places, like country-wide and world-wide ideas, our own approach, and ideas we got from people we talked to. We'll talk about that later.
